Sniggering at actress Leslie Ash's disastrously over-plumped upper lip has become something of a national sport over the last few years. But cosmetic injectable implants are not always a laughing matter.
Four weeks ago, Sir Liam Donaldson, the Chief Medical Officer, warned that collagen fillers are capable of transmitting blood-borne diseases, including vCJD (variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, the human form of BSE). He called for a clampdown on cowboy clinics and aesthetic fillers, ( Read more... )

The histories of VW and Porsche have been intertwined from the beginning. As
well as the obvious similarities between the VW Beetle and the Porsche 356
and 911/912 in terms of general layout, in particular the use of a
rear-mounted, horizontally-opposed engine, there have been several other
examples of cooperation between the two companies, such as the development
of the 1969 VW-Porsche 914, and the Porsche Cayenne and VW Touareg SUVs,

It isn't a difficult sum to calculate. Regular rental payments on a sofa will, at some point, exceed the amount it would have cost you just to buy the thing outright. Yet rented furniture is occupying a large slice of the capital's rented interiors, and turning furniture rental companies into large, lucrative businesses.
So who is this market aimed at? And what do you pay for a service that will deliver and install a complete furnished home package, which can extend to filling cutlery ( Read more... )

This isn't a sob story. I don't miss birthday cake, and my family and friends
have always been doubly generous over the years. One friend always sings "Happy
Birthday" down the phone, interrupting her day to make mine. And yet,
like many people born on 25 December, my birthday has never felt my own.
It's an adjunct to a bigger event from which I feel strangely apart, an
observer. It's my day, but snatching some of it for myself seems selfish.
Instead I watch, wondering what ( Read more... )

The city council said 137 dispensaries would remain open for now, but it intends to reduce the number to no more than 70 over time.

The ordinance will close down hundreds of dispensaries, which since 1996 have grown to between 800 and 1,000 in the city, thanks to legal loopholes in the sale and distribution of marijuana.
California law stipulates physicians must have no relation with dispensaries ( Read more... )
